How we work

HISA works by representing all students across UHI and its academic partners regionally. We also work with external organisations like NUS Scotland (National Union of Students in Scotland), NUS UK (National Union of Students) and SPARQS (body that looks after quality of teaching) to make sure you are represented on a national level.

The HISA full-time officers (HISA PresidentHISA Vice-President for Higher Education and HISA Vice-President for Further Education) agree priorities for the region by working together with the Local Officers you elect and other elected student representatives from each of the thirteen academic partners. They tell us about the topics and issues that are important to you which we need to take forward to make your student experience as good as possible.

If you are a student, aged 16 or over, at one of the following academic partners, you are automatically a member of HISA:

  • Argyll College UHI

  • Highland Theological College UHI

  • Inverness College UHI

  • Lews Castle College UHI

  • Moray College UHI

  • NAFC Marine Centre UHI

  • North Highland College UHI

  • Orkney College UHI

  • Perth College UHI

  • SAMS UHI

  • Shetland College UHI

  • West Highland College UHI
