Strike Action and Action Short of Strike, the Highlands and Islands Students’ Association Executive

Find our most recent statement from the Executive Committee of HISA on the current Strike Action and Action Short of Strike.

As a student Executive, we recognise the potential impact that Action Short of Strike (ASOS) and wider strike action that has been recently announced at UHI may have on the studies of all UHI students. Our foremost commitment is to serve as the voice for UHI students, advocating for your interests during this period of uncertainty.

Our student Executive members are actively engaging in discussions with Trade Unions and Senior Management teams across the UHI partnership to ensure that decisions made are in the best interest of our student body. As an Executive our primary goal is to work with all parties involved to minimise the disruption to your academic experience and outcomes.

We understand the reasons behind lecturing staff strikes and the objectives of the Action Short of Strike in advocating for fairer pay. To address concerns and provide support, we have initiated dialogues with the regional EIS-FELA committee and with UHI management to make the impact on student outcomes clear. We ask that together, we aim to navigate this challenging time and alleviate any potential issues arising from the union's actions.

If you are directly affected by the Action Short of Strike, we invite you to participate in submitting a red button report which goes directly to our Dean of Student Experience or speak to our impartial advice Advice Service (uhi.ac.uk).

UHI’s latest information for students on industrial action and related mitigations, with some answers to likely questions, was updated on Wednesday 20th March. You can find it on UHI’s website but you will be contacted by your Academic Partner should your studies be affected by this action.

We remain hopeful that constructive dialogue between the colleges and EIS-FELA will lead to a resolution on ASOS that minimises the impact on students.
