LGBTQ+ Support

Your local college and university values every student and wants to ensure you have the best experience possible. This page provides valuable information on where you can meet new friends with similar interests, discover exciting places to go for a night out in various places around the Highlands and Islands and find the support you need to succeed.

LGBTQ+ Awareness is very important to the Your Student Association and UHI. Understanding pronouns, the erasure of certain sexualities, differing identities, and LGBTQ+ sexual health are some of the things that are imperative to the Your Student Association.

Throughout the Highlands and Islands, there are organisations such as LGBT Youth Scotland, which is Scotland’s national charity for LGBTQ+ young people aged 13-25. They support young people in all aspects of their lives through the provision of amazing youth work, and we support them in using their voices to create change towards inequality and human rights.

Highland Pride also aims to promote and organise local events, such as Highland Pride, where everyone is welcome. It also aims to promote fair and equal treatment for LGBT+ people by challenging the stigma and discrimination they experience at both community and personal levels.

Additionally, the Terrence Higgins Trust is a charity that campaigns for and provides services relating to HIV and sexual health. Your SA can assist you confidentially without embarrassment.

The Pride Student Network is an online community that welcomes LGBTQ+ students from all across UHI. It allows them to make new friends and socialize with like-minded people. The network facilitates local meet-ups, including coffee days and daytime events, to accommodate those who prefer not to stay out late or are unable to.
