Student Mental Health Support

Although we are here to discuss your mental health, it's important to note that we are not trained counsellors. However, if required, we can certainly guide you towards additional mental health services.

If you're encountering difficulties with your mental health or in need of strategies to cope with stressful periods during your time at university or at home, the Student Services team at your local Academic Partner is available to assist you.

All UHI counselling and mental health services now deliver therapeutic support and mental health advice online and via telephone, so you can access help wherever you are. Information on how to do so can be found on UHI's counselling pages.

Students at the UHI also have access to counselling and well-being support through Spectrum Life, which offers guidance and support for health and mental well-being. It offers a 24/7 mental health helpline, staffed by trained counsellors and psychotherapists, available for students to contact via WhatsApp/SMS:

  • Phone: 0800 031 8227
  • Text ‘Hi’ to WhatsApp or SMS: 07418 360780

Who to contact in a Mental Health crisis

If you require immediate medical attention (either mentally or physically) or if you or anyone else around you is at risk of immediate harm, please call Emergency Services on 999.

Call the NHS non-urgent helpline on 111 if you require non-urgent medical advice.

You can call the Samaritans on 116 123 to talk to someone anytime, day or night.
